ACA Language Could Leave Some Families in the Lurch

Many families look at the health insurance options from their employer(s) and think the single only coverage is great, but how am I supposed to pay the much higher premium for my spouse and kids?

Many have been looking forward to full implementation of the ACA which should give them access to more affordable health insurance through subsidies if the insurance offered at work costs more than 9.5% of their income.  Unfortunately, the way the legislation was written, this is based on the much lower cost of single only coverage rather than the much higher cost of family coverage.  Consequently, these families may not have access to the very plans and subsidies they were planning on in order to take care of their families.

Health insurance is important for every family.  If you are having trouble finding affordable coverage consider looking at all your options as you may be able to save significant money if you are healthy or are willing to enroll in some of the consumer driven or high deductible health plans available in your community.  Don’t forget to look into state or county programs if you have not already done so.
